How Emotion Can Affect Couple to Conceive

Having an intimate relationship between couples is highly important and considered as a fundamental human need. In our everyday basis, emotions play a big role in the development and maintenance of intimate interactions with our partner (Schoebi & Randall, 2015).   Emotional states fluctuate when a situation occurs to be relevant to our life’s goals and concerns. Partners’ emotional experiences also shape the nature of their interactions. Often times, a relationship can only be observed through their effects which affected by individual’s emotions.

There is an interdependence correlation between our emotion and physical body (Sakara, 2016). Hence, our mind and body are inseparable. A fundamental idea in Chinese Medicine states that every organ corresponds to the energy of a certain emotion, and every disease stems from an imbalance in an organ. In other words, a physical disorder or dysfunction of a certain organ rooted from an imbalance in the emotion. In general, human’s emotions are divided into five basic types. These five core emotions and its correlation, as well as their effect on physical organ, are explained below:

  • Happiness/Joy

Feeling of content and well-being which can be achieved through pleasure or feeling ease/lack of problem in one/s life (can last briefly or for an extended amount of time). Joy is the emotion of the heart and small intestine which often indicated by the feeling of mentally clear and able to process experiences.

  • Fear

Being afraid of a specific object or event/ feeling of dread that cannot be pinpointed to a specific cause (generally lasts for a long time). Fear affects the kidney and bladder, liver and stomach.

  • Anger

Anger is a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility. Anger is the emotion of the liver and gallbladder. The excessive and constant experience of this particular emotion may result in the damage of the liver.

  • Sadness/Grief

Feeling of sorrow, whilst grief usually long-lasting and related to loss which may stay with one for a while. This particular emotion affects the function of lungs and large intestine; often indicated by the feeling of being energetically drained.

  • Worry/Anxiety

Feel anxious or troubled about actual or potential problems. Worry tends to be more focused on thought in our heads, while anxiety is more visceral in that we feel it throughout our bodies.  This emotion affects our spleen and stomach.

Out of these all five emotions and their correlation with humans’ organs, the liver plays a big role in the probability of a couple to conceive. As essential as it is, this body’s largest internal organ produce protein and manufacture triglycerides, cholesterol, and glycogen synthesis and bile production. The liver breaks down and detoxifies substances in the body and acts as a storage unit. It also functions as a blood clotting factor that is required to maintain fluid within the circulation system. In other words, the quality of our liver equals to the quality of blood which circulates around our body. The condition of our liver affects the production of hormones in our body. The menstrual cycle is controlled by hormones. This menstrual cycle helps the preparation of pregnancy every month. Therefore, it is important for us to get a time to relax and maintain our emotion.
Applying acupuncture may help blood circulation; awaken nervous system as well as working through emotional blockages. On top of that, specific Chinese herbs and medicine may be used to appropriately strengthen, tonify and detoxify the organ to help to maintain one’s emotions and fertility.
